Banff muckin about day.

There was a tour booked and buffet at a local Castle today for those interested. We decided to put the day aside to see Calgary as Gerrys Father was born, and her Grandparents lived there. They honeymooned in Banff where we are currently.

We awoke in the morning feeling a little weary so changed our plans last minute and headed 50km up the road to local attraction Lake Louise. It was very pretty and we mucked about chasing squirrels and looking for other critters, but it was crowded as the day was a fine, hot Saturday.

We bailed out to a nearby gondola that promised Grizzly bear sightings. No bears but a beautiful view of the Rocky's from a high viewing platform.

All the boys toys where out . Huge RVs, motorcycles, mountain bikes etc, as the summer has been bad here this year the locals and tourists are making the most of it. We are told we have been lucky with the weather.

Then it was back to Banff via the 1A road where you can see wild life quite regularly. Gerry did spot another bear, but didn't mange to get one her world renown Bear portraits. The ride home was hot and scenic.

Tomorrow is a biggie. On the road 7am and into the USA. We are heading for Whitefish in Montana. 380 miles. Whoa, can't wait.

We hear the AB's walloped the Springbok C team or what ever it was they sent.

Nice place Banff. Here for the tourist and ski season, although they are busier in summer as it gets too cold in the winter for some tastes. The time zone changed when we entered Alberta, so we lost an hour.  The good news is the sun doesn't really set until 10pm.

You meet of kiwis working here on temporary visas or Canadians who have travelled to New Zealand. Also a lot of Canadians speaking French.
