Our group had to split into two today.
We were booked to Catch the Ferry from Port Angeles in Washington State across the Straight of Juan de Fuca into Vancouver Island for a two night stay at Victoria.
The authorities will not allow more then a few motorcycles to board at any one time so we had an "early shift" and a "late shift." Gerry and I where down for the early one. 6am on the road. Yikes.
We awoke with baggy eyes and rain. The first adventure was to cross the very high and very long Bridge that crosses water into the state of Washington. Our hotel was under the bridge so the tyres where not even warm as we rode onto it. By the time we crossed over the rain stopped, we had dry roads and we were in Washington State. Yipee.
Although the Group was smaller we actually rode with the most people so far this trip.
We had to be at Port Angeles by 11.45 and no one could go wandering off where ever they felt like.
We had arrived about a week later than everyone else so of course the others had developed natural
groups.
This has left us to get into the swing of things in our own time and now we are fully used to riding on the wrong side of the road, sleeping at the wrong time etc, we are learning more about our traveling companions and becoming more part of the group. Every one is very friendly and there are no issues we are aware of.
Again there has been a lot of very pleasant scenery and the roads offered plenty to keep you occupied. some highway work but lots around inlets and past little settlements.
There must be a law the further north you go the bigger your truck/ute thingy must be. Still lots of American flags every where but also now we where seeing Indian Totem polls and the like springing up.
Usually as part of an Indian owned Casino. Yuk.
The scenery was very Green and again you could almost feel at home.
NZ doesn't have Elk Crossing signs, Casinos every few miles and flags fluttering but.
We arrived in perfect time 211 miles later to board the ferry.
It was a pleasant short trip where we Left USA and got off in Canada. Victoria is quite different to the states. Its buzzing with pleasant Architecture, flowers in baskets and more like NZ in feel.
Prior to checking in everyone visited the local Harley Davidson Dealer. We went along to, to be part of it and also see something of the Island. The shop was very upmarket and a large number of the group left with shopping bags groaning.
We are excited to be here for a two night stay so we can get off the bike and have look about this beautiful place.
I know what that's like, when I arrived in Prague my tour group had been together for almost a month. Me and Irene were seen as the annoying new kids. I hope your group is more mature than ours was!
ReplyDeleteCripes, A month is a long time, it would be hard to break into the group after that time.
ReplyDeleteOur Group is fine.

Hey what's with that Photo of you all riding on the left side of the road..........
ReplyDeleteLeft hand freeway baby. 70mph and guilt free. One of our group felt that wasnt fast enough and got to meet the nice state trouper.
ReplyDeleteNext time you are talking with Tom ask him about his state trooper experience. We were riding in Minnesota round Lake Superior heading towards the Canadian border. The roads were a bit cluttered so we decided to wind our way through the traffic looking for the break ...........as you do. Tom will tell you the rest.....
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying your blog wishing we are with you (green with envy actually).
Take care Paul & Ny
