We've been looking forward to this day for ages, the thought of hammering across the Golden Gate Bridge brought tingles up my spine.

It didn't disappoint.

The bridge is a beautiful work of art, almost an Art Deco engineering masterpiece.

Its a must do in my book. Spectacular views, a beautiful construction and a piece of history all rolled into one. Even the fog behaved but clipped some of the Bridge when it was photo time on the other side.

Next came about 30 miles of lovely curves and sharp bends, eucalyptus and pine trees.

We followed the No1 Highway, avoiding the interstate and while you have to go with the sea fog on and off its a never ending series of views and motorcycling heaven. The sides of the tires got a good workout.

A lovely stop as a group at a little town called Reynes for a late breakfast and the talk was of how much like NZ so much of the journey that morning had been. We could see mirror images of the Hokianga, Cormandel loop road, Kaikoua coast, West Coast South island and all in about 1 1/2 hours.

Large Hawks, a close encounter with a deer bounding across in front of us and a colony of seals rounded off the "critter" count.

Suitably re fueled with maple syrup and a coffee substitute off we went for what was a full days never ending series of spectacular vistas, cliff faces, ocean views, Red wood forested road and a range in temperature of from 60 degrees to 100 degrees.

Leaving the coast and heading inland a little causes the mercury to ride at a spectacular rate.

Today's pre conception blown way: The roads in America are straight and boring. We didn't see a straight one ALL day.

One pre conception that has now been proven is the yank tank one. Leaving San Fran behind has seen a substantial rise in the number of massive utes, SUVs and RV's. Massive. One RV was about the size of a small train.

The Americans are amazingly courteous on the road. We all make mistakes as tourists but instead of leaning on the horn, shaking fists or trying to cut you off they simply make room. 99% pull over to let you pass if its possible.

Tomorrow its off through some more Redwoods and a little settlement called Coos Bay.
