Cody to Gillette

We woke in Wyoming and are still in Wyoming. Actually we woke up early as another group of bikers where out early and he heard them tramping all about the Hotel at 5am.

It would take more provocation than this to spoil our fun though.

A Police officer  called past and spoke with us at the Hotel. He was a good sort.  Brian and Gavin, he has a bigger gun in his car than you do.

Officer in danger! Cougars on the prowl!
Actually I forgot to post a photo of something Grahame can aspire too in the same car park yesterday.

Powered by a small 4 cylinder Ford motor
We left at about 7.45ish and the first leg was though a wide open country side that obviously sees a fair bit of snow throughout the year. Time to dial in 70mph on the cruise control and watch the landscape unfold.

Our first planned stop was Ten Sleep. Needing a nature stop Mark went into a cafe in Greybull. Cripes! I'm in dueling banjos country here.  The people where nothing like those we left behind in Cody. Vaka and Marx - did you mess with my GPS????

No harm done and onward to Ten Sleep. As we neared the country side began to change.

Ten sleep received its name because of the method of measuring distance that was used by Native Americans at one time. There was once a large Sioux Indian camp on the banks of the Platte River, and another camp on the Clark's Fork River to the North.

These camps were important to Indians and settlers due to the trails leading to and from them in all directions across the West. It was twenty "sleeps," or nights, between the two camps.
It took ten "sleeps" to get halfway between them.

We had ten sleeps worth of food for Breakfast there.........

Following on from Ten Sleep we hit a majastic piece of road. Chalk and cheese from that prior.  There could have been an Indain standing on top of the huge buttresses or John Wayne could have been riding his horse. Neither would have looked out of place.

The next surprise was a steady climb up to 9,500 feet. We had been warm to hot previously. The temperature dropped as we went over the pass.

We arrived into Buffalo and one more member of our traveling party was spoken too by the Sherriff. "Your doin 40 in a 30 area. Do ya'll know what we do here to people like you boy? I put them in my jail. I'll let you go just this one time "

Then we took an alternative road rather than the 30 mile interstate journey. Wasnt really worth it.

We rode in alone to Gillette and went to the Harley shop to get an oil and filter change. They also renewed a weeping gasket but it didnt work. We'll have to drip our way around the rest of the trip.

Nice big store. Free icecreams, water and a band from 5pm.

While there Mark got talking to a local. He told Mark that Obama and the Gvernment where trying to turn America into a socialist state. They were also trying to steal his freedom, turn the place into England, take their guns and turn the country into as welfare state.

We arrived into our Hotel at 5.  Hot and ready for a shower. Gillette is a coal mining town

Tomorrow we ride into Rapid City and the start of our Sturgis experience.  Bring it on!!!
