Moab to Durango

Well another beauty. A quick check on the calender tells us the days are getting fewer.

Moab was warm when we left at 7.45. We left alone by choice figuring we would catch up and be caught up with by others along the way.

The red hills to our left glowed in the morning sun as we headed out of town.

A pleasant ride in solitude as the bike purred beneath us.  A Coyote decided on Russian roulette across the road in front of us. He made it no worries.

We turned off onto 46 towards Bedrock.  Not a stunning road but pleasant with a cool 70 degrees. Felt soothing after warming weather.  The colour green appeared again.

We rounded a corner at 65 MPH and found a fully grown deer on the side of the road. Its tiny mind was thinking left-right-left-right and our fate was to be decided by its decision.
It opted left thank goodness and headed for the nearby paddock.

We caught up with others a few miles further down the road and had a "coffee" and a little settlement named Norwood.

Utah was dispatched and Colorado welcomed us.

Onwards to Telluride, a ski resort in winter. We had the free gondola ride to the mountain side shops then a poke around the main town below.

Fittings on the roof to prevent snow falling on the punters

The ride on the gondola was not to be missed

Hmmmm cowboys boots....

You need a serious income if you wish to buy most things here, although some shops were a more reasonable price.

Refueled with a delicious smoothie we headed for Ouray. A small town that proclaims itself to be "The Switzerland of  America" It certainly has majestic Mountains that soar directly up form the town centre.

The town was suggested as a stop for Ice Cream by tour leader Ken, and friend Brett who had previously been through the area. It would be rude not to stop then. We displayed our manners by Gerry having a single scoop and Mark a double. Hmmmm ice cream.....

We had been enjoying perfect weather all day. As we waddled out of the ice cream parlour  a sudden down pour hit us.

We have learnt just to wait ten minutes so this is what we did. Bing! Fine again.

The following road was spectacular. I need some more words as they escape me. It was bloody good anyway.

Road cut into hill and NO barrier.

We got stuck behind a massive truck trailer unit and Marks heckles rose. To hard to pass safely.  Needn't have worried however as this driver fair motored around the switchbacks. We couldn't have travelled much quicker with the margin for error Mark employs.

Another came towards us on one switchback and took up the entire road.  These guys must do it everyday.

We reached Silverton dry, but it wasn't going to last. It is likely the same weather we escaped in Ouray was traveling with us.

Silverton was a small town more cowboy then John Wayne's spurs.  You could have a bit of fun here. Water got on the lens so not many photos to back this up.

We donned the wets for the final push towards Durango. Bugger because the Mountain pass was diamond. One of the best motorcycle roads we have encountered. Lovely views, readable corners, good grip- it would normally be time to open her up.  A wet road put paid to that.

Once over the pass the sky blued up again and we relegated the wets in to top box.  Warm too, about 80 degrees.

Durango is a large town. Hopefully we will have a chance to explore.

We are concerned about the weather reports coming from home and hope you are are safe and warm.
